Overview
The Minnesota Judicial Branch helps resolve the state's residents' legal disputes. Its court system reviews some 2 million case filings each year. Founded by the Territorial Act in 1849, the state's Supreme Court (consisting of seven justices) receives about 900 appeals annually. Its Court of Appeals (with about 20 judges), established in 1983, handles more than 2,500 cases annually. Minnesota's District (Trial) Courts includes more than 280 justices.
