Dun & Bradstreet's data contains some coded fields for ease of querying and storing. The following code tables are being supplied as reference for customers to understand the definitions of these codes

Geographic Code Tables

  • Dun & Bradstreet North American County Code - A Dun & Bradstreet geographical code identifying the U.S. or Canadian county where the business is located.
  • FIPS 2-Digit Alpha Country Code - A Federal Information Processing Standards geographical 2-digit code identifying the country where the business is located.
  • ISO 2-Digit Alpha Country Code - An International Standards Organization geographical 2-digit alpha code identifying the country where the business is located.
  • ISO 3-Digit Alpha Country Code - An International Standards Organization geographical 3-digit alpha code identifying the country where the business is located.
  • ISO 3-Digit Numeric Country Code - An International Standards Organization geographical 3-digit numeric code identifying the country where the business is located.
  • WorldBase 2-Digit Alpha Country Code - A Dun & Bradstreet geographical 2-digit alpha code identifying the country where the business is located.
  • WorldBase 3-Digit Numeric Country Code - A Dun & Bradstreet geographical 3-digit numeric code identifying the country where the business is located.
  • Country Telephone Access Code - A code identifying the international dialing code required to connect to the telephone or facsimile when dialing outside the country.

  • SMSA Code - A US government geographical code identifying the Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area where the business is located.
  • Dun & Bradstreet Numeric Global State Code - A Dun & Bradstreet geographical 3-byte numeric code identifying the global state/province/region where the business is located.

Demographic Code Tables

  • National ID Type Code - A Dun & Bradstreet code identifying the type of National ID number provided (i.e., Polish Tax Identifier).
  • US Deliverability Code - A USPS code identifying the likelihood that an address contains the necessary information to be deliverable.
  • Global Deliverability Code - A code identifying the likelihood that a non-US address contains the necessary information compared to the Postal Address File available for the country to be deliverable.

Firmographic Code Tables

  • SIC 2 Digit Code - A 2-digit Standard Industrial Classification code identifying a line of operations for a business at the broadest level.
  • SIC 4 Digit Code - A 4-digit Standard Industrial Classification code identifying a line of operations for a business at a less broad level.
  • SIC 6 Digit Code - A 6-digit Standard Industrial Classification code identifying a line of operations for a business at a more specific level.
  • SIC 8 Digit Code - A 8-digit Standard Industrial Classification code identifying a line of operations for a business at the most specific level.
  • Local Activity Type Code - A Dun & Bradstreet code identifying the type of activity code (i.e., 1987 SIC Code) represented in the Primary Local Activity Code field.
  • NAICS Code - A North American Industry Classification System code identifying a line of operations for a business.
  • D&B Credit Rating - An overall evaluation of the credit worthiness of a business.
  • Legal Status Code – a 3-digit numeric code identifying the legal structure of a business.

Commercial Code Tables

  • MRC Code - A Management Responsibility Code identifying a title or area of responsibility of an executive.
  • Name Profile Code - A Dun & Bradstreet Match Data Profile code identifying how the submitted Company Name matched to the Dun & Bradstreet Match Reference File.
  • WorldBase Currency Code - A Dun & Bradstreet code identifying the type of currency represented in the Sales Volume (local currency) field. If the field does not state 'local currency', then the Sales Volume is in US Dollars.
