Football fans eagerly awaiting European Football Cup 2016 can now experience the advantage of big data analytics first hand: a web application, developed by the newly established Dun & Bradstreet Data Analytics Lab, can predict results by doing estimations based on how the teams perform. According to Dun & Bradstreet’s web application, Spain, England, Switzerland and Belgium have the highest probability to win the entire cup. For the finals, the predictions foresee Belgium vs Spain.
The way Dun & Bradstreet Big Data Analytics Lab is doing the predictions is by using unstructured and scattered web data combined with analytical models. By analyzing goal intensity, attack and defense strengths, historical results etc, prediction can be done on how each match could end, the results of the groups, the outcome of the playoff tree and finally who will be the winner.
The application will be continuously updated throughout the tournament with daily refreshed predictive results based on the actual teams performances and match results.
“Everything is possible within sports and football, that’s why we love it; nothing can be said by a 100% certainty. However, the models and results have continuously been benchmarked to the market and have proven to be quite robust. That’s why we can predict that Spain as two-time defending champion has the most chances to become the champion once again 2016”, says Andreas Psaros, Interim Commercial Lead Big Data Analytics Lab, Dun & Bradstreet.
Dun & Bradstreet big data analytics lab
Dun & Bradstreet has established a Big Data Analytics Lab to offer a flexible Hadoop ecosystem - a “software library” that can process large data sets. It means that Dun & Bradstreet can match and analyze their customers data together with Dun & Bradstreets own data and the data that today's connected world generates, so-called Big Data.
“We believe the Dun & Bradstreet Big Data Analytics Lab gives our customers, who are overwhelmed with complex untested ideas, the chance to safely test their big data use cases. At the same time, we can learn from them. It gives us the opportunity to develop service offerings based on these experiences. Who doesn´t want to fail fast and learn quickly? The Lab allows us and our customers to do that”, says Marcus Hartmann, Executive Director Big Data Analytics Lab, Dun & Bradstreet.
