Corporate insolvencies in Switzerland are rising sharply. From January to November 2022, they increased by 21 percent. A total of 4,349 cases occurred. The increase was particularly strong in Zurich (+38%), followed by Central Switzerland (+25%). The analysis by Dun & Bradstreet shows that certain industries have a massively increased risk of bankruptcy. Companies in the wood and furniture industry are the most at risk. Here, the risk of a company going bankrupt is 4.4 times higher than the average for all sectors in Switzerland. The risk is 3.3 times higher for craft enterprises and 2.7 times higher for the hotel and restaurant industry. While insolvencies rose sharply, the number of new businesses fell slightly. Nevertheless, there are also boom sectors here. In particular, there were very many new entries in the commercial register in the real estate sector and in the manufacture of durable goods. In these two sectors, start-up activity is 1.7 times higher than the average for all sectors.
