In the first five months of the current year, the number of corporate insolvencies in Switzerland rose by eleven per cent to a total of 2,498 cases. The biggest increase was in Central Switzerland, where company bankruptcies rose by 31 per cent. This was followed by Southwestern Switzerland (+18%), Zurich (+14%), Eastern Switzerland (+12%), Northwestern Switzerland (+8%) and Ticino (+1%). In Espace Mittelland, the number of bankruptcies fell by five per cent. Meanwhile, the number of new start-ups rose by four per cent. The strongest increase was in Southwestern Switzerland (+8%), followed by Northwestern Switzerland (+5%), Espace Mittelland and Ticino (both +4%). These are followed by Eastern Switzerland and Central Switzerland (both +3%). The lowest increase in the number of start-ups was in Zurich (+1%).
