From January to October 2022, 3,849 Swiss companies entered into insolvency proceedings. This is an increase of 19 percent compared with the same period last year. The canton of Zurich stands out particularly negatively. Here, bankruptcies rose from 509 cases to 719, an increase of 41 percent. Central Switzerland saw an increase of 26 percent, while bankruptcies rose by 16 percent in Espace Mittelland and by 15 percent in Northwestern Switzerland. Ticino recorded an increase of 12 percent and southwestern and eastern Switzerland 11 percent each. While bankruptcies increased sharply, there was a slight decrease of one percent in start-ups. A total of 40,903 new companies were entered in the commercial register. While new formations increased by four percent in Zurich and by one percent in Ticino, they decreased in all other major regions of Switzerland.
