In Switzerland, a total of 3,552 companies went bankrupt in the first three quarters of this year. This is an increase of 23 percent compared with the previous year's figure. In Zurich, insolvencies rose by as much as 42 percent ¬- a record figure compared with the other regions. In Central Switzerland, bankruptcies rose by 32 percent, in Espace Mittelland by 26 percent, in Northwestern Switzerland by 20 percent and in Eastern Switzerland by 16 percent. By comparison, southwestern Switzerland, with an increase of twelve percent, and Ticino, with an increase of ten percent, are doing comparatively well. Overall, the outlook for the future is not particularly promising. In addition to the overdue bankruptcies of zombie companies from the Corona crisis, there is now also the threat of a new wave of insolvencies due to skyrocketing electricity prices. The negative mood is also reflected in the number of start-ups. From January to September 2022, entrepreneurs registered a total of only 37,077 new companies in the commercial register, a decline of two percent.
