From January to July 2022, there were 475 business bankruptcies in the canton of Zurich. According to Dun & Bradstreet's analysis, this is an increase of 33 percent compared with the same period last year. In Espace Mittelland, the increase in insolvencies was 27 percent, in Northwestern Switzerland it was 22 percent and in Central Switzerland 21 percent. Thus, the growth in these four major regions is above the national average of 18 percent or a total of 2,592 bankruptcies. Below the average national increase were eastern Switzerland (+16%), Ticino (+12%) and southwestern Switzerland (+2%). Meanwhile, new business startups in Switzerland decreased by four percent. In total, only 29,662 new companies were entered in the commercial register from January to July 2022.
