Westlake Chemical produces petrochemicals and plastics. Its plastics offerings include polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and polyethylene, both of which are common in packaging products and grocery bags. Its PVC pipe products are sold under the North American Pipe and Royal Building Products brands. Westlake also produces the chlorine used in PVC, as well as caustic soda. Its petrochemicals include ethylene, ethyl benzene, and styrene—which are building blocks in plastics. Westlake produces about 40 billion pounds of product each year and is the third largest producer of both PVC and chlor-alkali in the world. TTWF, which is controlled by the Chao family (Westlake's founders), owns more than 70% of Westlake. The US accounts for about 70% of company's total sales.
