Westinghouse Air Brake Technologies (dba Wabtec) manufactures braking equipment and other parts for locomotives, freight cars, and passenger railcars. Wabtec's Transit business supplies replacement parts and repair services to operators of passenger transit systems. Products made by Wabtec's Freight group include air brake systems, draft gears, slack adjusters, heat exchangers, railroad electronics, and monitoring and control equipment. About 65% of the company's total sales are to customers outside the US. In early 2019, Wabtec doubled its size by merging with the transportation business of GE. Wabtec traces its roots back to 1869, when inventor George Westinghouse first demonstrated his straight air brake.
