The University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics Authority (UW Hospitals and Clinics) has the last word when it comes to the health of Badger Staters. The centerpiece of the authority is the UW Hospitals and Clinics medical campus which is home to a nearly 1,490-bed hospital, the American Family Children's Hospital, a cancer clinic, and a small inpatient psychiatric ward, as well as Level I adult and pediatric trauma centers. Serving more than 600,000 patients each year with approximately 1,750 physicians at seven hospitals and more than 80 outpatient sites, the hospital administers cancer treatment, heart and stroke care, organ transplantation, and a host of other medical services. The UW Hospitals and Clinics organization also operates area health clinics that provide general and specialty outpatient care and emergency room services.
