Tops has been struggling to stay that way in the highly competitive grocery market. The holding company, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in early 2018, owns some 170 Tops Friendly Markets stores in upstate New York, northern Pennsylvania, and western Vermont. The full-service, regional supermarket chain offers items across a range of categories, including general grocery, produce, dairy, meat, floral, seafood, health and beauty care, deli, prepared foods, and bakery goods. More than 50 locations have pharmacies and more than 60 have fuel stations. The first Tops store opened in 1962.
