Puratos also concocts specialty ingredients used in patisserie (pastry) making, including custards, fruit and cream fillings, glazes, marzipan, meringues, and icings. Through its Belcolade subsidiary, it is a leading Belgian chocolate maker, serving professional chocolatiers. With approximately 60 production plants in 40 countries, Puratos sells its products to some 200,000 customers in more than 100 countries worldwide. The company got its start in 1919 selling ice cream and confectionery mixes in Brussels.
