The Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal wants to STOP fires, DROP the incidence of arson, and ROLL with community-based firefighters. It inspects such facilities as state licensed day cares and schools for fire safety compliance, and regulates the fire sprinkler and equipment industries. The Fire Marshal also investigates suspicious fires and explosions; regulates the construction, installation, operation, inspection, and repair of boilers and pressure vessels; registers, inspects, and licenses petroleum and chemical storage tanks; and enforces elevator safety through registration, inspection, certification, and licensing. The Fire Marshal has an annual budget of about $30 million.
