Sugarbeet cooperative American Crystal Sugar is owned by some 2,600 growers in the Red River Valley of North Dakota and Minnesota who farm more than 400,000 acres of cropland. Through five processing plants, crops are converted into sugar and other products such as molasses and sugarbeet pulp. The cooperative's products are sold in the US and other markets to industrial users and retail and wholesale customers under the Crystal name, as well as under private labels through marketing co-ops United Sugars and Midwest Agri-Commodities. American Crystal Sugar also provides sugarbeet processing for third parties and owns 51% of a corn wet-milling plant leased to agriculture giant Cargill.
