The American Bankers Association (ABA) brings together banks of various types and sizes. Its members include bank holding companies, savings associations, savings banks, trust companies, and community, regional, and money center banks. The ABA serves as an advocate for its members in legislative and regulatory arenas. It also engages in consumer education, research, and training efforts. The ABA's BankPac, the banking industry's largest political action committee, provides financial support to candidates for the US Senate and House of Representatives. The ABA was founded in 1875 and claims to represent more than 95% of banking assets. The group merged with the America's Community Bankers association in 2007.
