Dun & Bradstreet supports a culture of generosity that allows our team members to give back to their communities. Here’s a look at some of the ways our teams made a difference around the globe in 2014:


Lighting the Way for Homeless Youth

The Lighthouse Foundation is dedicated to giving homeless young people a place to live that provides a family environment and the therapeutic care needed for a fresh start. Through their Lighthouse experience, these young people heal, learn to better relate to others and rebuild their lives.

How We Helped: Our Australia team cleaned and maintained a home for Lighthouse youth. The residents, who often come from backgrounds without emotional or financial support, had the chance to become part of a community where strangers are willing to help them transform their lives.


Biking to Close the Gap

Close the Gap is an international non-profit organization that aims to bridge the digital divide by donating computers from European companies to educational, medical and social projects to those in need.

How We Helped: For the third consecutive year, five of our Belgium team members participated in Bike to Close the Gap. Through the 276 cyclists from Belgium’s IT world participating in the event, Close the Gap raised €85,000 to provide computers to Belgian non-profit organizations. Each team had the chance to cycle as many laps as possible on the famous Paterberg, an extremely tough climb in Belgium’s Flemish Ardennes.


Sharing Kindness With Children in Need

Lar da Criança Favos de Luz is an orphanage outside of São Paulo, Brazil, for 18 children in need of food, clothes, toys and adult attention.

How We Helped: Some of our team members in Brazil spent a day at the Lar da Criança Favos de Luz orphanage playing with and supporting the children. The day was filled with activities such as board games, sports, crafts and more. Before leaving, team members donated toys, clothes and blankets.


One Bike. 30 Seats. 20 Minutes. 2 kms.

Every 7 minutes, someone in Canada dies from heart disease or stroke. The Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada aims to prevent these diseases by empowering Canadians to live healthier lives.

How We Helped: Our Canadian team participated in a Big Bike Fundraising Event to fund research that is needed to develop life-saving treatments that bring hope to heart disease and stroke patients. Thirty team members jumped on one large bike and rode 2kms in 20 minutes. Through this event the team promoted healthy living and raised $2,160 CAD for the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.


Sharing Encouragement Following the Ludian Earthquake

After a magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck Ludian county in China's southwestern Yunnan province on August 3, 2014, thousands of buildings collapsed triggering multiple landslides, leaving many without food, clothing and shelter.

How We Helped: Dun & Bradstreet China used WeChat (Chinese Twitter) to ask customers to write encouraging messages to survivors to help them stay positive after the overwhelming destruction. Along with hundreds of heartfelt posts, Dun & Bradstreet China donated ¥100,000 CNY to help rebuild Ludian county.

Bringing Hope and Smiles to an Orphanage in Southwest China

In a remote mountain area in southwest China, a small orphanage of 20 children needed food, clothing, daily necessities, educational materials and more adult attention.

How We Helped: Dun & Bradstreet team members spent a summer day at the orphanage. They played games with the children, completed handiwork and shared what life is like living in a big city. As they left, the team donated educational material to help prepare the children for brighter futures.

Helping Students in Hong Kong Learn English

The Salvation Army in Hong Kong provides service and support to people in need. For one of their projects, they needed volunteers to mentor and inspire children from the S.K.H. Kei Tak Primary School.

How We Helped: Dun & Bradstreet worked together with The Salvation Army in Hong Kong to develop a learning and support program called “Outdoor English.” To practice speaking English, students were brought to a popular tourist spot to play the role of a reporter by interviewing different visitors in English.


Donate Time to Homeless and Injured Animals

The Dublin Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (DSPCA) needed volunteers to assist with daily work in caring for homeless and injured animals.

How We Helped: The DSPCA depends on volunteers to continue the services they provide for animals in need. Our team in Dublin walked and played with the dogs to help the pets become familiar around people, and give them a better chance of adoption. They also cleaned living pods, washed litter trays, fed the animals and socialized the cats and kittens.

Support Causes They Believe In

Each year, Dun & Bradstreet team members in Dublin vote on two charities to support through fundraising and team building events. In 2014, Dun & Bradstreet Dublin supported AWARE and Temple Street Foundation.

AWARE works to create a society where people who experience depression and related mood disorders are understood and supported in a variety of ways, free from stigma.

The Temple Street Foundation raises money for the Temple Street Children’s University Hospital, so they can provide superior care and pioneer new treatments and cures for childhood illnesses. The hospital provides world-class medical care to babies and children from all over Ireland in a family-focused environment.

How We Helped: Our team in Dublin participated in a number of fundraising activities to support AWARE and Temple Street in the important work that they do. These included a Couch to 5K event, “Pie in the Face” competition, raffles, a charity hike and more.

United Kingdom

OctoBeard – Causing a Fuzz

Team members across the globe rallied in support of OctoBeard, a Dun & Bradstreet initiative to raise funds for Headcase Cancer Trust, the only UK charity that dedicates its funding solely to finding a cure for Glioblatoma Multiforme (GBM) brain tumors.

How We Helped: Team members from the UK, Ireland and the U.S. ditched their razors for a month and grew beards to raise awareness and funding for GMB brain tumors. As beards grew, so did support. Through a variety of events, including a cake-baking competition – the "Bearded Bake Off" – and raffles, Dun & Bradstreet raised $33,165 USD to support Headcase Cancer Trust.

United States

Supporting 12 Years of Success for the All Stars Intern Program

To help transform the lives of youth in poor communities, our team participated in The All Stars Development School for Youth, a leadership program providing ambitious teens the opportunity to develop their professional skills and talents.

How We Helped: For the past 12 years, Dun & Bradstreet has collaborated with the program providing inner-city youth a six-week, paid internship over the summer. After completing a training program, 17 students worked alongside Dun & Bradstreet team members in several departments, including Finance, Legal, Marketing, Product Technology and more. Through a hands-on experience, the teens learned to interact in a professional setting and other basic work skills that prepare them for the future.

6th Annual Basket Extravaganza Bonanza Donates $11,000 to the American Red Cross

The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization led by volunteers providing emergency assistance, disaster relief and education to United States citizens.

How We Helped: Team members in Short Hills, NJ, participated in the site’s 6th annual Basket Bonanza. Many departments donated a themed prize basket, and team members purchased raffle tickets for a chance to win the basket of their choice. There were 22 baskets donated, and the site raised $11,000 USD for the American Red Cross.

Movember – Changing the Face of Men’s Health

Movember, a global men's health charity, encourages men to grow a moustache during November to start the conversation and collect donations in an effort to face men’s health issues.

How We Helped: Twelve team members joined forces with “facial flair” during the month of November. Through the power of the moustache, the team raised awareness and $2,700 USD are to combat prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health challenges.
