Putting Data into Action to Improve the Business of Government
“Enough information to make a decision is not necessarily enough information to make a good decision.” This is just one of the bold statements made by Dun & Bradstreet’s Anthony Scriffignano when discussing the challenges government organizations are facing in a world awash in data.
Addressing a standing room crowd at last month’s Nextgov event – “Data in Action – Improving the Business of Government,” Scriffignano implored the audience to take conscious decisions to look at data in a whole new light. Data alone is not enough to deliver meaningful answers. Instead, government organizations need to consider the data in hand versus the data available and not available.
“It is possible to make decisions with data if we are mindful about what data we have available,” said Scriffignano. “However, we must at least have some idea of the data we are not using in the decision-making process and a clear understanding of the constraints on the type of decisions we can make and defend.”
